Using Cat Beds, and Water Fountains

I am a certified hardcore cat owner. I have so many accesories for my half-breed Persian cat Crumpet around the house that it is probably the first thing guests notice when they enter the front door. (Oh! That is a big PINK scratching post!) I do so for the well being of my pet, my personal convenience, safety for all the members of the household. In this post I wish to discuss cat beds, which provide 75% of the service you will ever need for your cat – as they spend this much time sleeping, and as well as the new and nifty automatic water fountains for your your pet’s hydration needs. (There is a difference between bowls and fountains and we’ll be discussing that too.)

A cat bed is essential but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can convince your cat to sleep in the same spot every night. While this is mostly the case for me, I do see Crumpet sleep on the carpet and on the sofa once in a while. Now that is okay, but the point is you DO want your cat to be using his own stuff especially when sensitive guests visit your home and they are a bit off with the idea with sitting on the same couch as the household pet. (Now I don’t have this problem – Crumpet is too adorable not to like!) Aside from this, many cat beds aesthetically, are really nice to look at and thus they also add some beauty to your home.

With automatic water fountains, the main reason to get one is convenience. For me the main difference between normal feeding bowls and fountains is that you can leave a fountain for a whole day and it would let your cat drink, but a bowl needs to be changed as water does get stagnant. How it works is that every time a cat needs to drink, fresh water is displaced making it similar to human drinking fountains. It doesn’t spill as easily too and thus it makes a less of a mess in case your cat becomes careless. I found out a long time ago that with Crumpet, nopet drinking bowl is ever “spill proof.”

Now the problem that most cat owners will probably face in the usage of these products is training their cat to sleep on the cat beds and making them drink out of what is probably, a strange novel machine that spews water. The best advice I can give is this: to be patient and to trust your cat. Usually, they just need to get used to the idea of having a new item at home or a change of pace. This will be particularly true for older cats. Crumpet is almost 7 years of age, and I even got him from the previous owner already 5 years of age. While he didn’t have a problem with drinking out of bowls and fountains alike, it took a while to wean him off the carpet onto his $30 cat bed.
