How Can I Stop My Cat From Destroying My Furniture?

Many cat owners wish they had a solution to stop their cat from destroying their furniture.  I am sure many cat owners have come home from a hard days’ work to find that Fluffy has decided to sharpen her nails on your favorite recliner. Your emotions go from disbelief to anger as you begin to think about the cost of reupholstering the recliner, or even worse, the cost to replace it. You also find this baffling because Fluffy has always had a nice scratch post that she loves sinking here nails into.  It is a difficult situation to be in because you absolutely love your Fluffy and would never dream of replacing her. This is when you begin to ponder about how you can prevent this from happening again.

 

Maybe your cat is not a scratcher. Maybe she likes to chew on the arm of the sofa. In any event, this could still destroy your furniture. There have been many explanations as to why cats chew on things other than their designated toys. The first explanation is that young cats are similar to that of human babies and they both explore the world by putting things into their mouths. Another possibility may be that your young cat has started teething. But what if your cat is not a young kitty? If you have an older cat and she has suddenly developed an urge to chew on things other than food or her toys, it is quite possible that she is bored or that she may have a nutritional deficiency. In the event the above reasons are ruled out as to why your cats’ behavior has taken a turn for the worse, developing a training strategy to help stop this unwanted behavior would definitely be a great idea.
